Park City's Roots
Park City was originally a mining town in 1870, after the discovery of silver, lead and gold in the region. Being one of only a few towns in Utah that wasn't developed by Mormons, 27 saloons lined the streets, inviting miners and travelers to quench their thirst. When the mines became flooded after drilling through to the water table, Park City real estate quickly became a ghost town.
By the 1950s, skiers started to discover the beauty of Park City's mountains. However, the city remained a virtual ghost town until the 1970s. Park City continues to grow to the present day, thanks in large part to the tourism trade that flocks here every winter for the absolutely amazing skiing available at Park City's resorts.
