History of Midway
Midway real estate started as a village after the Ute Indians started raiding settlements in the 1860s. Mormon leaders decided it would be best for those living along Snake Creek to band together for protection. Neither of the Snake Creek villages wanted to move, so they both moved to a midway point, hence the name Midway, and built a fort. More and more Swiss settlers began to settle in Midway by the 1880s, many of which chose the area because the mountainous terrain reminded them of the Swiss Alps. Several others came from the missionaries that were returning from Switzerland that brought converts and friends with them.
The 2002 Olympic bi-athlon and cross-country events were held at Solider Hollow. Midway is also known for the large hot-pot, a part of the Homestead Resort and golf course, which hosts scuba diving year-round. The water of the hot-pot fluctuates between 90o and 95o F.
